Fuel Surcharge Increase Notice | Middle East Conflict Impact

We wish to advise that the current conflict in the Middle East is having a direct impact on fuel pricing and supply markets, which in turn is impacting logistics and transport operations globally.

Given fuel is a core cost component across all transport services, these conditions require us to actively manage fuel-related cost recovery. Due to the ongoing volatility and rapidly changing environment, we will be reviewing fuel movements on a weekly basis to ensure pricing remains aligned with current market conditions.

Effective Monday, 16th March 2026, we will be increasing our fuel surcharge. This adjustment is necessary to reflect the current fuel market and to ensure the continuity and reliability of services.

To provide transparency and consistency, we will issue fuel surcharge updates each Friday, advising if any changes are applicable for the following week.
Please be assured that we will continue to monitor the situation closely and apply adjustments only where required. Our intention remains to manage impacts responsibly while maintaining service levels and operational stability.

Should you wish to discuss this further or require additional detail, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Australia - EU Free Trade Agreement Announcement

In a recent press release, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announces a new Free Trade Agreement between Australia and the European Union (EU).

“After 8 years of negotiations, Australia has secured a landmark trade deal with the European Union, the world’s second largest economy. The Australia–European Union Free Trade Agreement will lower trade and investment barriers between Australia and the European Union – a market of around 450 million people.”

European Regulatory Framework from 2026

Stockwells would like clients to be aware that from 2026 onwards, 100% of CO₂ emissions from voyages calling at EU ports will be subject to EU ETS taxation, compared to 70% in 2025.

Weather | Tropical Cyclone Narelle re-intensifies

Tropical Cyclone Narelle (34U) initially developed northeast of Cairns in Queensland and crossed Australia’s northern coastline as a tropical low. The system has since re‑intensified and is now forecast to track south along the Western Australian coastline, passing Port Hedland as a Category 3 cyclone.

In response, Pilbara Ports has issued a CLEAR PORT notice for the ports of Ashburton, Cape Preston West, Dampier and Varanus Island.

The system is expected to continue strengthening, potentially reaching Category 4 intensity by tomorrow evening before crossing the WA coastline.

China updates registration requirements for overseas food exports

Stockwells has been advised of new measures issued by the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) relating to the registration of overseas food production enterprises exporting to China. The updated arrangements, announced in March 2026, are expected to take effect from 1 June 2026.

The changes refine the scope of products subject to registration and adjust requirements for certain higher-risk food categories. They also expand registration obligations to include some overseas cold storage facilities handling food destined for China.

While Chinese authorities have indicated that currently registered exporters should not be adversely impacted, members exporting food products to China are encouraged to review their registration status, product coverage and supply chain arrangements to ensure ongoing compliance.
