The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) has announced changes to the Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) seasonal measures for the 2026-27 season.
Effective 31 July 2026, the following alternative clearance pathways have been discontinued:
- BMSB Safeguarding Arrangement Scheme
- BMSB Rolled Goods Policy
These changes follow a departmental risk assessment that reviewed inspection and detection data and determined that these pathways do not provide the same level of biosecurity protection as the current BMSB treatment and loading requirements.
As a result, importers, shipping lines, freight forwarders, and other affected parties must ensure that all eligible goods comply with the standard BMSB seasonal measures, including mandatory treatment requirements where applicable.
Please note that goods that do not meet the required treatment and loading standards may be:
- Refused discharge in Australia
- Directed for offshore retreatment
- Ordered for export
The revised arrangements will apply from the commencement of the 2026-27 BMSB risk season. Updated guidance and operational information will be released by DAFF prior to the start of the season.
